Ideas for outings during the May bank holidays

Kaysersberg printemps idées activités ponts de mai

May means public holidays! This year, you can take advantage of two four-day weekends or combine them for a ten-day getaway.

To answer this call to springtime disconnection, we’re taking you on a road trip through the Kaysersberg Valley. From vineyards embellished by medieval towns in bloom, through the green countryside of the Welche region, to the Lac Blanc resort and the summits of the Vosges Massif, discover our three universes of multiple activities.

Here are our ideas for a holiday full of simple pleasures and moments of pure lightness.

The must-attend event in May: the Role Playing Festival

This year, let yourself be transported into the world of the “Legends of Arthur”. A theme that promises to bring knights, swords and other fantasies to life in the medieval streets of Kaysersberg, Saturday May 3 and Sunday May 4, 2025.

Discovering the first universe

Let’s start our escapade with a first stop in the vineyards. It’s not only at Christmas that the magic happens!

Fall under the spell of springtime colors, when geraniums and flowerbeds grace the streets of Alsatian villages. Take a stroll through the vineyards, where poppies and small flowers brighten up the vines and the first bunches of grapes can be seen.

Vineyard to-do:

Conquer a castle and enjoy a picnic break with a 360° panorama of the Alsatian vineyards. Our spot to (really) enjoy it: Château du Wineck in Katzenthal
Take a postcard-perfect photo of Alsace and the beauty of its flower-filled lanes!
Find the treasure of Kientzheim, Ammerschwihr and Katzenthal by solving the riddles on the fun walks.
Take a break to sample Alsace wines and gastronomy.

Château du Wineck
Our idea for a gentle stroll through the vineyards:

Your starting point: the charming medieval town of Kaysersberg.

You can rent a bike on site. Take the “voie verte” through the vineyards towards Kientzheim, and tie up your bike for the Promenade des Remparts, a path around the only village in Alsace still completely surrounded by its medieval ramparts.

Then head for Sigolsheim and Ammerschwihr to return to your starting point.

Immersion in the second universe

Let’s continue our adventure with a stopover in the heart of the Welche region. This is where you’ll find the breath of fresh air you’ve been longing for!

Deep forests, grazing fields, winding country roads and the rounded peaks of the Vosges Massif shape the landscape of the Pays Welche. A veritable green lung for the valley, this natural setting offers a multitude of ways to recharge your batteries and unwind.

The countryside to-do list:

Stroll between fields and forests to observe the wonders of nature in spring
The art of living here means buying cheese directly from the farm
Pamper yourself with a relaxing break on the edge of a field
Take a step back in time by exploring the fascinating historical legacy of the Great War

Our idea for a gentle stroll through the countryside:

Your starting point: Orbey or Lapoutroie to climb to the top of the Tour de Faudé and enjoy a 360° panorama of the Kaysersberg valley.

Our tip for (real) enjoyment: pack a picnic with local produce, as picnic tables await you at the top!

The feeling of freedom in the third

For the last leg of this road trip, we’re heading for the heights, at over 1,200 metres altitude, with a potential change of scenery worthy of the name, to finish on a high note!

The Lac Blanc resort is a little corner of paradise. A wide range of landscapes, lakes that change color depending on the viewpoint and the weather, fresh air and a host of activities to suit all tastes!

  • Mountain to-do:

Find the remains of the Great War by exploring the Massif de la Tête des Faux
Feel the elements of nature beneath your feet
Help Till and Froll find their friend Hans
    Marvel at the horizon

Why set off for further afield when a 5 km loop lets you see the essentials!

A beautiful hike starting from Col du Calvaire, Station Lac Blanc 1200 to enjoy a panoramic view from the Lac Blanc ridge and return via the Tanet-Gazon du Faing Nature Reserve.

Our tip for (real) enjoyment: book a guided chamois outing!
