Kaysersberg Valley Tourist Office
This first day will take you gradually from the vineyards to the mountains. From Kaysersberg, voted France's favorite village in 2017, head for two other wine-producing towns in the valley: Ammerschwihr and Katzenthal. This is part of the famous Alsace Wine Route, the only difference being that you'll be walking it on the Camino de Santiago de Compostela.
On this stage, you'll discover a part of Alsace's emblematic heritage. As you pass through the villages with their colorful lanes, full of flowers and lively depending on the season, take the time to meet the winegrowers who shape the picturesque landscapes that pass before your eyes, and taste the specialties whose scent follows you.
Next, head for the Galtz monument, erected in memory of the victims of the Great War 1914-1918. This site is also renowned for its spectacular views over the Alsace plain and the Vosges mountains. From up here, you can see how far we've come and how far we still have to go. This is a turning point in your itinerary, as it marks your passage into the mountains. Your first day ends in Labaroche, your stage village for the day.
