In the 14th century, Le Bonhomme had a chapel dedicated to Saint Gregory. At the end of the 17th century, when Le Bonhomme became a parish in its own right, a church under the patronage of Saint Nicolas was built. It soon became too small and work was carried out from 1757 to 1773. On 10 July 1858, the feast of God, a firecracker inadvertently thrown onto a thatched roof caused a fire that affected the entire centre of the village and destroyed the church, the presbytery and many houses. A new church was built in the neo-Romanesque style on the site of the fire. It was consecrated on 18 July 1865. During the two world wars, the church was badly damaged.
